In order to fully concentrate on A5 powered iPhone 4S and iPad 2, pod2g finally hands over the 5.0.1 untether to the Chronic Dev Team (the hacker group responsible for greenpois0n jailbreak) to use as they please. The untethered jailbreak currently supports iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod touch 4G and third generation iPod touch.
Joshua Hill, lead hacker of Chronic Dev Team is now in the stage of beta testing, hopefully there will be a jailbreak to come shortly. It’s now clear that an update will come to Greenpois0n with untether built in, meaning that people that jailbreak on 5.0.1 will not have to reboot their device with iBooty or the Mac equivalent, but there is no ETA for the release.
BTW, here is what pod2g posted on his blog:
I need to focus on A5 and hope I can find a path quick, and I have the feeling that chronic-dev could help me.
So, here is what I did:
- I gave all the details to the chronic dev team so that they can finish, test, integrate and release the A4 jb ASAP.
- I’ll put all my energy from now on on the A5
Pod2g has used the same patches into the exploit as being used by existing redsn0w tethered jailbreak. So you may expect the greenpois0n iOS 5.x untethered jailbreak to be stable.

iPad 2 and iPhone 4S Jailbreak Status
The iPad 2 and iPhone 4S jailbreak seems to be vulnerable to the exploit. Last week, the hacker was able to squash major cache bug by doing untether in a single thread and by flushing all the dcache then all the icache in a row at a strategically point of the process. It took him like a hundred of tests to find the key. He even made significant progress regarding launched boot process courtesy @saurik, who incorporated a missing piece in his exploit that will now help him to achieve stable jailbreak.
Once the greenpois0n is updated for iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak support, hackers will start spreading thin to release Siri port on iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G and iPhone 3GS. Lots of more things will come up. Stay tuned! We will update you along with full tutorial guides on how to untether jailbreak your iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch and iPad easily using greenpois0n tool.
