Download Absinthe for iPhone 4S / iPad 2 on 5.0.1 Jailbreak

We’ve been seeing the iPad 2 / iPhone 4S jailbreak demoed here and there for a few weeks now, and here we go — the download is now available. Absinthe, the userland jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 is finally released to public. The announcement was made earlier on the Chronic Dev-Team blog. This latest jailbreak works only on Mac OS for download. Windows version will be posted later.

What is untethered Jailbreak?

Untethered means that the user does not need to plug the device into their computer every time they reboot it, as opposed to “tethered”, which requires this.

Supported Devices:

  • iPhone 4S: 5.0 (9A334), 5.0.1 (9A405) and the “other” 5.0.1 (9A406)
  • iPad 2: 5.0.1 (9A405) – All three models

Chronic Dev team has incorporated the A5 version of the jailbreak into easy-to-use GUI tool Absinthe which will work on both Windows and Mac OS. On the other hand, due to instability, which might arise during A5 jailbreaking process, iPhone Dev Team have independently packaged the exploit into command line interface. This will assist the team to debug the errors easily. Once the errors are ironed out completely, iPhone Dev team plans to package the vulnerability into redsn0w tool for stable and clean jailbreak.

We have posted a note to users who seeks unlock for iPhone 4S. Please care to read here and before you take a plunge, a full backup would be strongly advisable.

    I jailbreak-ed my Ipad 2 running 5.0.1 using absinthe. The first time I ran Cydia it was fine, now everytime I open Cydia it starts opening but it crashes. I have tried jailbreaking it again but absinthe says ERROR: Device already jaibroken! Detected stash. I have tried re-installing ispw 5.0.1 but Itunes doesn’t allow it. All it wants is to install ispw 5.1. Can someone help?

    jailbreak not working, please help. says that absinthe could not be opened. The error was: ” the URL cant be shown”.   Please help. I want this.

    I have downloaded the absinthe to computer, i ran the jailbreak and the icon was on phone as told it would. I have selected icon and have waited for at least an hour now. screen says wait for absinthe to complete….. I have waited and waited and need to know is something wrong?

    My iPad 2 was stuck at the part where you launch Absinthe on the
    iPad 2, it showed that skull image and said please stand by but then it
    was stuck on that image for a bit too long

    when i open cydia and it starts to download the pacakges, at the end it says to me some index failed to download they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. what shall i do can any one please answer me

    I open Absinthe, then plug my phone in, but it wont let me press the jailbreak button. It dosent recognize that the phone is plugged in? Can anyone help. Im from Australia

    it seems that the server to get cydia from is timing out… I cant get past the tap absinthe..

    I finished the whole process but i am stuck on clicking the absinthe on my ipad 2 wifi springboard, after numerous attempt to load the page nothing happened… As if its only a web page…
    Any advices?

    Did the jailbroken on IPAD 2 wifi only, as per the instructions on MAC!!!  it was a breeze, took about 5 mins through the whole process… never happier to see CYDIA on my ipad… :)
