[Warning]: iOS 5.1 on Horizon – iPhone 4S / iPad 2 Jailbreakers MUST Update to 5.0.1

Apple is due to release 5.1 Golden Master soon followed by its public release in a matter of a week or two. If Apple pushes 5.1 update, they will stop signing 5.0.1 and chances are you won’t be able to update your iPad or iPhone 4S to 5.0.1 (even with your SHSH blobs for 5.0.1). Eventually, you will not be able to jailbreak your A5 device since you will only have one option – to restore to iOS 5.1 which will break the upcoming jailbreak.

If you update your A5 device to 5.0.1 ‘NOW’, you will be able to use pod2g’s A5 jailbreak when released. If you do not restore to 5.0.1 now, you may never be able to get from 5.0 to 5.0.1 and only option will be to wait again, said thebigboss in a reminder message to entire jailbreaking community on his blog.

I would like to re-iterate: Right now SHSH blobs are pretty worthless for those devices (A5) ATM. So those who think that saving 5.0.1 SHSH certificate files will save their future jailbreak, are absolutely wrong. But it is still advisable to save SHSH blobs for 5.0.1 anyway.

How to Upgrade your iPhone 4S, iPad 2 to iOS 5.0.1 Firmware

Step 1: The first step is pretty straightforward. Download the official iOS 5.0.1 firmware for your iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

• iPhone 4S
• iPad 2 (iPad 2 AT&T, iPad 2 Verizon)

Step 2: Connect your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 to your computer. If you aren’t prompted automatically to start downloading iOS 5.0.1, select your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 under the Devices header in the left-hand column.

Step 3: After selecting your iDevice you will simply need to SHIFT click the Restore button (Windoes) or ALT click the Restore button (Mac OS).

Step 4: Select the official iOS 5.0.1 IPSW firmware file you downloaded in Step 1. After 5 to 10 minutes your iOS device will reboot running the official iOS 5.0.1 firmware.
