iOS hacker Musclenerd has released redsn0w 0.9.9b9 tethered JB for iOS 5.0.1 which brings number  of useful features in addition to other small stability improvements over previous release.

The latest redsn0w 0.9.9b9 now provides support to iOS 5.0.1 and there is no need to point redsn0w at 5.0 IPSW or use command-line arguments.  With the ninth beta of redsn0w you can use functions like “Jailbreak”, “Just boot”, “Fetch blobs”, “Stitch blobs”, “Recovery Fix”, as used in older releases.

Musclerned has fixed iBooks issue pertaining in 5.0 and 5.0.1 since long.  In case you have already tethered jailbroken your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch on iOS 5.0, 5.0.1 or betas using redsn0w, tap “Just Boot” option. There is no need to repeat entire jailbreaking process again.

Good news for iPhone 3GS old-bootrom users and unlockers! 3GS owners can now create custom IPSWs without blobs easily. For unlockers who have preserved their baseband for iOS 5.0.1, they will be able to unlock their iPhone 4 using ultrasn0w, but you have to wait by Monday.

8GB iPhone 4 can now be jailbroken using redsn0w 0.9.9b9. In all its past releases, the tool had problems with “Fetch blobs”, and thus wasn’t possible to jailbreak the device before.

redsn0w 0.9.9b9 has extended its support to windows users and allow to use the “Custom” button to create IPSWs without updating the device baseband. Earlier, the toll only provided support to Mac users only.

The tool now accommodates APTickets in iOS 5.x that are crypto-verified before submitting to Cydia, just like the main blobs, confirms Musclenerd. The hacker is working round the clock to provide Cydia server support for sending back the APTickets, but no ETA has been shared so far.  As of now, the best option is to use stitched IPSWs for 5.x.  And remember, you have to start your jailbroken iOS device in “Pwned DFU” mode.

Musclenerd has added support for stitching iOS 4.x blobs to iPad2 IPSWs (GSM model) , just like notcom’s TinyCFW but the best part is that it doesn’t require lots of RAM (TinyCFW requires 2.5 GB of RAM) or a TSS-assisted restore.

On iPad 2 and iPhone 4S jailbreak, the hacker has reiterated that redsn0w 0.9.9b9 won’t work for iPad 2 iOS 5.x blobs (or iPhone 4S at all) until a bootrom-level exploit is out. Those who have installed iOS 5.1 beta should stay away since most of the Cydia Apps are not yet compatible.

First, untethered JB is coming from pod2g who is not a part of iPhone Dev Team. Secondly, it is just not support for iOS 5.0.1 tethered jailbreak, there are number of other features that have been pushed into the latest build of redsn0w.
