PwnDevTeam released second beta of Ac1dsn0w jailbreak software fixing the legal issues tied with Ac1dSn0w beta 1. Since the team has removed the copyright code references in the tool, it now brings Ac1dSn0w at par with other alternate jailbreaking tools – such as redsn0w or sn0wbreeze.
The tool can be used to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 and iOS 5.0 running on all supported iOS iDevices except A5 powered iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Ac1dSn0w currently supports Mac OS X but the hackers at PwnDevTeam camp promise to extend the support to Windows platform as soon as they can.
At present, options to remotely jailbreak the device and the creation of a custom firmware has not been included in this beta 2 release.
If you are convinced to use Ac1dSn0w to jailbreak iOS 5.01 and 5.0.1, follow the video guide below. Check out supported mobile operating system and device before downloading Ac1Sn0w jailbreak utility.
Firmware: iOS 5.0.1 and iOS 5.0
Devices: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G and iPad 1G
Platform: Mac OS X
Step 1: Download Ac1dSn0w from here
Step 2: Connect your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad to your computer USB
Step 3: Run the Ac1dSn0w jailbreak utility you downloaded in Step 1 above. You can view the console and the wizard to see the jailbreak process.
Step 4: Turn off your iDevice and then enter into DFU mode. Getting your device into DFU mode is somewhat tricky, and it may require some patience and practice because timing is essential to get it to DFU mode and not into recovery mode. To enter into DFU mode, follow the steps below:
- Turn off the device while connected to your computer
- Click the Home + Power button for 10 seconds then release only the power button while continuing to press the Home button.
After iTunes recognizes the iPod Touch/iPad/iPhone, let go of the Home button otherwise it will go into recovery mode and you will have to do the entire DFU process over again. You will know when you have put your device correctly into DFU mode when the display is blank and that you do not have anything on your device.
Step 5: When your iDevice is in DFU, the software automatically detects Ac1dSn0w. Click the “Start button”. If it detects your iDevice in recovery mode simply close the iTunes software.
Step 6: Click the “Jailbreak” and let the software work. Be patient at this point! Your computer screen at this point will be showing a series of messages indicating installation progress.
In the first stage of the jailbreak, your screen will flash white and then a small revolving wheel will appear at the bottom of your screen of your iDevice.
Step 7: Reboot your device. At this point no cydia icon will be added to the springboard. Since it is a tethered jailbreak, you are required to boot-tether the device. Currently, only iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) supports untethered jailbreak.
Step 8: Turn off your iDevice and set up the device in DFU (Device Firmware Update mode). DFU mode is a mode where the device will be made to force a restore of the firmware into whatever version firmware it is given.
Step 9: Then click on “Tethered Boot” button and wait for a while. Your screen goes blank during the procedure. You can use Redsn0w to “Tethered Boot” your jailbroken iDevice (tested).
Step 10: Reboot your iDevice, and now the white Cydia icon appears on Springboard.
Step 11: Launch Cydia application (make sure you have a 3G or WiFi Internet connection). It will close automatically (for the first time). Second time it should work. In order to fix White Cydia icon issue, follow simple steps below:
- After launching Cydia, tap on “Manage” (situated at the bottom of your device)
- Choose Cydia Installer from the Installed list
- Tap on the “Modify” button at the top right
- Tap the big rectangular “Re-install button”. When it’s done, your Cydia icon should restore its original brown color.
I would recommend you to watch the video before you start to jailbreak your iOS Device. It is strongly recommended to install OpenSSH to allow you to enter Safe Mode to delete a tweak on this unstable iOS 5. Also see the guide for a Semi-Tethered jailbreak (optional).
[Optional]: After Jailbreak, you will need to install the afc2add Cydia package to gain root access to files via USB software from your computer such as DiskAid, or iFunBox PhoneView (requires a reboot of your iDevice).
