Ahead of the official launch of iPad 4 and iPad Mini, Apple has released two new builds of its iOS 6 software targeting iPad3,4 (iPad3,4) and iPad2,5 (iPad2,5). The build has been labeled as 10A407 for iPad 4 and 10A406 for iPad Mini and are available for download via Apple’s official servers. The build size of the iPad mini IPSW is 819 MB, while the iPad 4 IPSW is 1.1 GB.
Interestingly, instead of releasing a new iOS software update iOS 6.0.1 or 6.1, Apple had released iOS 6.0. There’s no official word from Apple at this point on exactly what’s changed, but based on the build number change (because of introduction to new hardware), it does suggest that it could include some compatibility fixes. But macerkopf.de has different story and suggests that iOS 6.0.1 comes pre-installed on the iPad mini. Notably, iOS 6.0 for other devices was made available on September 19th.
The timing of the release is also quite interesting. No one know what build number iPad Mini and iPad 4 will ship with to early adopters? If you’re one of them who are waiting for the new shiny toy in hand, be sure to have the required IPSW at desktop in case of an emergency. Here’re the direct download links.
