The wait for the iPad Mini is almost over. Apple has begun sending out invitations to an iPad Mini event (via iLoop) that’ll be taking place on October 23 at 10:00 AM PT. According to The Loop, invitation reads “We’ve got a little more to show you” and the gathering will be taking place at Apple at the California Theatre in San Jose and not at the Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium, as predicted earlier. Though the company hasn’t provided more details, Apple CEO Tim Cook is expected to announce the iPad Mini at the event and show off its specifications and features. At the event, we also expect Apple to release 13″ Retina equipped MacBook Pro.

The date confirms a report from All Things Digital, claiming Apple would be holding iPad Mini media event on October 23, and matches up with a story from WSJ and Reuters, which said Apple would be holding an event in the month of October. The Wall Street Journal and other outlets have additionally reported that Apple suppliers have ramped up the production of 7.85-inch screens.

As with every major Apple device launch, rumors about the Mini iPad have been swirling for months, with the media unofficially dubbing the device as “iPad Mini”. By this point, a 7.85-inch screen appears almost a certainty – most rumors and supposed component leaks point to the iPad Mini having a 7.85″ screen – making it slightly larger than a Kindle Fire or Nexus 7. The resolution is apparently 1024×768 and it would be capable of running apps that supports iPad or iPad 2 except the apps that utilize the new iPad’s Retina Display technology. The iPad Mini will also ship with iOS 6, the new mobile software Apple launched last month. It’s also expected to be thinner and slightly lighter than the current iPad 3, and it will likely run dual-core A5 processor.
