Boost Battery Life of iPhone on iOS 6 by turning off Tracking

iOS 6 brings number of features on iOS devices, but after installing the latest update on the latest phone several users began reporting that their iPhone 5 devices had taken a significant battery life hit and is draining faster than it should. Many of them complained it often falls short of its predecessor iPhone 4S, particularly when used for cellular calling and data. Some users reported that LTE is draining their battery while handful of others pointed the finger at Notification services and applications such as Whatsapp for the poor battery performance.

A number of other factors could have attributed to reduced iPhone 5′s battery endurance– Thinner designs, larger and brighter screens, power-hungry ultra-fast processors, software running in the background, and always-on features such as GPS radios, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. Even weaker signals take a great toll on the battery life.

So what should be done to stem the flow of juice from iOS device?

iOS hacker @l33tdawg, (Founder and CEO of HITB) has suggested few changes that (via settings panel) will help in increasing the battery performance.

Navigate to Settings -> General -> About -> Advertising and turn on ‘Limit Ad Tracking’.

Navigate to Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services -> System Services and within System Services, disable Diagnostics and Usage, Genius for Apps, Location-Based Ads and Traffic.

With iOS maps useless (as of now), developer suggest to install Waze instead. Having iOS maps active, your iPhone 5 will constantly try to pull down traffic information for your current location and thereby consuming lots of resources.

After turning off the options above, developer has reported better battery performance. Before, he was getting around 4 to 5 hours of usage and 6 to 8 hours of standby and this has now jumped to 7 to 8 hours of usage and 16 hours of standby.
