Jailbreak developer BigBoss is sending out a stern warning to those who plan to update their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to the latest iOS 6.0 which is scheduled to be released for public download in few hours from now. Upgrading to the latest iOS 6.0 firmware will patch your existing iOS 5.x jailbreak and may cut your future jailbreak possibilities.

BigBoss added that the latest iOS 6 mobile operating system is a total ‘dud’ and is more like an incremental update iOS 5.1.2 than a feature-rich upgrade. Since Apple has removed YouTube and Google maps, jailbreakers have two more reasons not to updated their jailbroken iOS devices to iOS 6. Those who inadvertently update will get Apple maps with no street view, no transit directions.

iOS 6 officially brings more than 200 new features with enhancements to its digital voice assistant but the developer presses that some of them can easily be achieved via jailbreak tweaks. For instance, “do not disturb” functionality can easily be achieved with RingerX VIP tweak available in Cydia store.

So far, iPhone Dev Team has only released a developer-only version of a redsn0w tethered jailbreak that supports iPod touch 4G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (GSM) and iPhone 4 (CDMA) running iOS 6.0 developer builds. A5 devices such as iPad 3, iPhone 4S, iPad 2 jailbreak on iOS 6 are still out of the window. In case, the Geohot’s limera1n bootrom exploit supports the final version of iOS 6 on A4 devices, users must proceed with following warnings:

  • iPhone unlockers and those preserving their unlockable basebands should stay away from installing the iOS 6 update.
  • Most of the jailbroken applications and apple’s official apps are broken.
  • Cydia may not be installed and the only access you might get to the device is through SSH or afc2.

Once the iOS 6.0 is out for download, hackers will start spreading thin. We expect that both Saurik and iPhone Dev Team will soon iron out the open issues with Cydia and PreferenceLoader before releasing the public version of redsn0w iOS 6.0 jailbreak. Lots of more things will come up. Stay tuned! We will update you along with full tutorial guides on how to jailbreak iOS 6.
