Using the sly marketing tactics, Samsung has published an ad in various national newspapers in United States against its arch rival Apple to show off its new Galaxy S III handset as an alternative choice for potential iPhone 5 customers. The newspaper advert starts with the very large letters “It doesn’t take a genius”, stamping home in the largest possible way their message that actually Galaxy S3 is “Genius”.

The ad understates the Apple’s iPhone 5 features and various other features that will accompany with the public version of iOS 6. The ad draws attention to the features of the Galaxy S III, whilst highlighting and pointing out around the sides of the phone how it betters the iPhone 5 – in what can only be described as an attack ad of the highest order. The ad goes somewhat further than discussing features mentioning not-so-used attributes such as Tilt to zoom, smart Alert, shake to update, et cetera. Even the ability to remove battery is mentioned by Samsung as an advantage over iPhone 5. As many of our readers know, iOS 6 brings 200 new features to the platform and that is a clear advantage to those who care about such a thing.

The ad seems to be a part of a larger push by Samsung to dust off a brand that was clouded by recent lost to Apple in a major legal battle with a $1.05 billion verdict. Does Samsung’s move appears to be a revengeful response? Do you find these ads persuasive or effective? It’s unclear how successful this campaign will be but what do you think? Share your opinion with us in the comments section below. BTW here’s the ad which appeared in NYT.

who cares? If you want an iphone, get an iphone. Does Samsung really thing they’re going to peel off iphone junkies with these ads? Save your money and drop the price. It’s madness !!! ;)

It doesent take a genius to spot a company that cant think for it self and copy everyone else’s products

Samsung shot themselves in the foot by showing that the iPhone 5 is lighter than the Galaxy S III.

Also notice how the iPhone 5 has it’s screen off (or as if it isn’t even there at all). Yet the Galaxy S III happens to have it’s screen on…

It appears Samsung are afraid of what would happen if the iPhone 5 screen was on.

    what a pathetic ad!

I thought that was a Samsung ad at first til I got to item 12 on the list!
They’re right, it doesn’t take a genius, no iOS, no sale ;-)
I got to play with a friend’s GS3 and if I could run iOS 5 or later on it, I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
I want a big screen and I love the way it feels in my hand, like a big iPhone 3GS or tiny iPad 3 (especially with the smart cover style flip case). From what I’d read, I expected it to feel cheap and plasticky, and though it is plastic and lightweight, it still felt like a quality device.
but Android has such an amateur feel compared to iOS in my opinion. Also I’m way to picky to run a stock OS and from what I hear Android rooting is a pain compared to iPhone jailbreaking.

    Samsung you suck :/
You will never be better than iPhone
    Fucking SAMSUNG

  • Min Park

whatever but galaxy cannot beat iOS, its not about hardware any more Samsung’s software sucks

  • Leigh Kennedy

No, you don’t need a genius. You need a carrier that’ll take 3+ weeks to replace the damn phone when it goes faulty.

It’s a way better alternative than instantly getting your iPhone replaced by Apple.

    /end sarcasm
