iPhone Dev Team have packaged the pod2g’s Rocky-Racoon untether exploit into CLI (command line version) tool that will assist them in diagnosing issues (such as – iTunes errors, boot issues and other recovery loop problems) that may arise during the jailbreak process. Once the issues are ironed out completely, the solution will be packaged into redsn0w tool for stable and clean jailbreak.

Jailbreaking the 5.1.1 untethered using CLI tool requires a tiny bit of command line work, but it’s nothing most users can’t handle – or rather, everyone can handle. You’ll need a Windows computer for this particular method, but it’s really just a matter of plugging in your iOS device to be jailbroken and running a few commands. If you want to try this method, see the note, requirements and instructions below.

I would recommend you to try command line method only when you fail to jailbreak your device using Absinthe 2.0.1.

Note: If you’re iOS device is running iOS 5.1, you must upgrade it to 5.1.1 before you follow the steps to jailbreak; else you’ll not be able to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch (Note: Absinthe 2.0 doesn’t support iOS 5.1). This is done by downloading a stock IPSW from Apple and applying it with iTunes (preferably, the latest version of iTunes).

And, if you have already jailbroken your iPhone 4 or 3GS “tethered” using redsn0w, there is no need to re-jailbreak. You can simply install Rocky Racoon Untether 5.1.1 Package from Cydia to convert tethered jailbreak into Un-tethered. New users, however, have to follow the process below.

Supported Devices and Firmware

Supported Devices on 5.1.1 (9B206)

  • iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 (GSM + CDMA) and iPhone 3GS
  • iPod touch 4G and iPod touch 3G
  • iPad 3, iPad 2 and iPad 1G: All three models (WiFi, GSM, CDMA)
  • Apple TV2
  • iPad 2,4 and iPhone 4 (iOS 5.1.1 build 9B208) support will be added in subsequent releases.

Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 on Windows using CLI tool

The following easy-to-follow instructions will help you jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 (Build 9B206) on all iOS devices sans Apple TV3. It couldn’t be any simpler and stable than this method right here.

Step 1: Download Corona Injector CLI tool for Windows on your desktop and extract it to folder cinject-0.5.3

Step 2: Connect your iOS device to your Windows PC via USB

Step 3: Open command prompt and type cmd and then press Enter. If you’re unaware press Start, and type cmd and then press Enter

Step 4:  Since you’ve extracted the folder (refer Step 1) to desktop, just type the following command and Press Enter button available on your computer keyboard.

cd Desktop/cinject-0.5.3

Step 5: Execute the following command to run the jailbreak payload. Do so with device unlocked (slide-to-unlock).

cinject -Y payloads_rocky

You will see following text messages. Sit tight as the tool is installing the payload. While you’re executing these commands, don’t touch your device. Just let the commands do their work.

Congratulations! You have successfully jailbroken iOS 5.1.1 IPSW on your iOS device untethered. Enjoy the many benefits of having a jailbroken Apple TV.

If you are getting unknown or strange errors with the CLI version, Try a restore to iOS 5.1.1 and try again. It should solve errors.

We sincerely thank pod2g and his Co.for all his hard work towards untether 5.0.1 jailbreak! In case you are facing any sort of issue, sound off in comments or on twitter.
