The process for jailbreaking “The New iPad” (iPad 3) is fairly simple and straight-forward. It only requires plugging iPad 3 device to the computer, running the Absinthe 2.0 and clicking the “Jailbreak” button.
If you’re third generation Apple tablet is running iOS 5.1, you must upgrade it to 5.1.1 before you follow the steps to jailbreak; else you’ll not be able to jailbreak ‘The New iPad’ (Note: Absinthe 2.0 doesn’t support iOS 5.1 on A5/A5X devices). This is done by downloading a stock IPSW from Apple and applying it with iTunes (preferably, the latest version of iTunes).
Although, chances are minimal that serious issues will arise out of it. Users looking to follow the steps are strongly advised to make back-ups of their data before installing Absinthe 2.0 on their iPad 3.
Requirements
- ‘The New iPad’ (iPad 3) running on iOS 5.1.1 (9B206) IPSW.
- Computer running on Mac OS X or Windows OS.
- USB cable to connect iPad to computer
Instructions: iOS 5.1.1 iPad 3 Jailbreak
The following easy-to-follow instructions will help you jailbreak A5X based iPad 3. It couldn’t be any simpler than this method right here.
Step 1) Download and extract Absinthe from the .zip and start Absinthe.
Step 2) Connect your iOS device to your computer. The tool will automatically detect your iOS device and firmware running on it.
Step 3) Click the Jailbreak button to begin the process. After clicking, you will see a message that requests you to wait for a while as the first process requires a little time.
Let Absinthe 2.0 do its thing, you will notice scrolling text on your screen to assure you that something is happening in background.
During this process, initial jailbreak data files are transferred from the computer to iOS installed on your device followed by final jailbreak data. Please do not interrupt the process. It may take time which is perfectly normal with Absinthe 2.0 jailbreak.
Your iPad will reboot automatically. During the reboot process please do not touch your Mac or iPad. Sit tight and wait for a while.
As soon as the Absinthe injection is complete your iPad device will reboot automatically. The message window of the tool will read – “Waiting for process to complete…”
Once you get the message – “Done Enjoy”, you will notice Cydia on your iPad Springboard
Congratulations, you have successfully jailbroken your iPad 3 on 5.1.1 (untethered). The method is “exactly” the same for iPad 2 and first generation iPad. Easy, isn’t it?
You can now try installing jailbreak applications and tweaks on your tablet. Feel free to post errors (in comment section) you’re getting during the jailbreak process. We will try to troubleshoot them to achieve clean and stable jailbreak.
