Looking for a way to run multiple apps, all at once on iOS device? A new jailbreak app Quasar has just hit the underground cydia store that allows you to open multiple applications simultaneously on iPad. With Quasar cydia tweak, you can run multiple apps in different windows and switch seamlessly between them on your iPad at the same time. It essentially reinvents Multitasking and takes it completely to a new level.
The window size can easily be resized, move them across the screen, close (or fully close holding the close button) or full-screen them, and if you are in full-screen mode, you can simply press home button to go back to window mode. In short, Quasar is a perfect window manager for iPad. The tweak comes incredibly handy when you want to play game and tweet in tandem on same screen.
Developer Pedro Franceschi has integrated Quasar tweak to iOS’s default app switcher. Killing an application in app switcher (or holding the close button) force-kills its window and the application itself, but if you only click the close button, the window is closed but the application keeps running in background (in the app switcher). It is integrated too with notification center and with Safari/App Store/YouTube/links that opens other apps. iPhone applications are optimized to run in the right resolution in Quasar. You can configure options from Settings app.
A key to how Quasar tweak handles applications in this way is that processes don’t shut down cleanly. When the user leaves an application, its process is kept around in the background, allowing it to continue working if needed, and come immediately to the foreground if the user returns to it. If a iPad never runs out of memory, then Quasar application will keep all of these processes around, truly leaving all applications “running” all of the time.
If this is the kind of tweak you’re interested in trying out, just head over to the Cydia store and search for Quasar under BigBoss repo. The Quasar jailbreak tweak can be downloaded for $9.99 (required minimum iOS 5). Take a look at the package, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
