iPhone Dev Team has finally taken the lid off the A5 jailbreak. For iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak enthusiasts, the hacker camp has just released Redsn0w 0.9.10b7 for both windows and Mac OS X. This latest version of redsn0w packs Corona for the A5 devices and the rest of the firmware patches which injects the required files into your device.
The process appears to be different from conventional redsn0w jailbreak but it is pretty straightforward. Don’t worry, though–we’ll show you how to do it from scratch. However, if you follow the instructions for the jailbreaking method you use carefully, you shouldn’t have a problem. Of course, before attempting any sort of jailbreak, make sure your iPhone 4S and iPad 2 data is backed up.
Users are reporting some issues while running jailbreak. I ran it on two iOS devices without any problems so your mileage may vary.
Pre-requisites
- An iPhone 4S or iPad 2 on 5.0.1
- Latest iTunes installed on your computer.
- Download Redsn0w 0.9.10b7
Step 1: Download the latest version of RedSn0w 0.9.10b7 and save onto your desktop. Extract the RedSn0w zip file by double clicking it.
Step 2: Connect your iOS 5.0.1 iPad 2 or iPhone 4S to your Windows PC via USB cable.
Step 3: Run Redsn0w 0.9.10b1. as an administrator mode. You can do this by right click the executable and select “Run as Administrator..” from the contextual menu.

Step 4: Now click the Jailbreak button to start the process. The screen shows you it as a three step process
- Install Mobile Configuration
- Prepare Jailbreak
- Trigger Jailbreak

Step 5: All these steps will be initiated automatically. As a first step, on your iPad screen you’ll be prompted to install the ‘Jailbreak Profile’. Install the VPN profile. To install it – Tap ‘Install’ -> ‘Install Now’ -> ‘Next’ -> ‘Done’. During the process you will be prompted to enter the password. Be sure the VPN is on.

Step 6: Follow the on-screen instructions to jailbreak your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S on Windows.
When your iPhone 4S/iPad 2 finishes rebooting (5 minutes or so) it will be jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard. We sincerely thank pod2g for all his hard work towards untether 5.0.1 jailbreak! In case you are facing any sort of issue, sound off in comments or on twitter.
Tip: In order to escape the apple boot loop logo problem, just hold the volume up button when your iPad boots, it will bypass any of the horribly broken extensions (ones that prevent the device from starting up at all) that you may have installed so you can open Cydia and uninstall them.
