Developers at Intelliborn have released MyWi 5.5 which brings support for jailbroken iOS 5.0, 5.0.1 and iOS 5.1 firmware, all new WiFi sharing in addition to fixing bugs. You can now share your WiFi connection via your own WiFi hotspot. MyWi 5.5 is available as a free download for all existing MyWi 4.0/5.0 users. With nearly 2.5 months of hard work, the devs over Intelliborn have developed MyWi 5.5 app from scratch (for iOS 5.x users only). After installing it, you will notice it with faster initialization/broadcast of hotspot, faster connection speeds with greater reliability. MyWi OnDemand now uses bluetooth tethering to activate WiFi Hotspot.

Intelliborn has released 3 packages – MyWi 5, MyWi 5.5 (iOS 5 Library) and MyWi OnDemand. 1 is for solving dependencies, the second the actual app, and third is for OnDemand purchase.

MyWi 5.5 Tether App

What is MyWi Tethering App?

That who is unaware, MyWi is a popular tethering app that creates WiFi Hotspot to connect laptops or mobile devices to share your iPhone or iPad’s internet connection. The reason why this tethering app is hot-favorite among the jailbreak community is because of the fact that the price of MyWi 5.0 is just $19.99 (one time), whilst the price of AT&T’s tethering option is $45 per month. Why to shell out such a huge recurring amount when you have MyWi option available to you? There are, of course, other iPhone tethering app available, but MyWi uses less battery and is much faster due to native routing. Essentially, MyWi turns your “Wi-Fi only iPad” into WiFi+3G model.

MyWi OnDemand, on the other hand, connects when you need it, and disconnects when you don’t. When you leave your WiFi connection at home and you’re using the iPad, the iPad will connect automatically. When you turn your iPad screen off, or go back where you have WiFi, MyWi OnDemand will disconnect.

Supporting iOS Devices

MyWi 5.5 is available in the Cydia Store via ModMyi repository for $19.99. This cydia app works with all jailbroken iPhone and iPad on 3.1.2 or later. It support iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS, 2G including first generation iPad and iPad 2. Make sure you install “MyWi 5.5 (iOS 5)” or “MyWi 5“. If you are on 5.0, don’t install the one that says 3.x/4.x. Currently, Intelliborn is providing 3-Day Free Trial after you install it via Cydia. Do not try installing it using UDID faker and Installous. It won’t work.

How to Fix MyWi 5.5 Upgrading Issues

Some of the users may find it hard to upgrade. Be sure you don’t tap “Upgrade All”, you have to click in the MyWi “depiction” and then tap upgrade. Otherwise, you will not be able to install the updated app. Yes, it’s a cydia bug and we are expecting Saurik to push the compatibility in next update. And yes, if you have installed “Pandora Downloader”, disable or uninstall it, else you’ll have Bluetooth issues. Finally, after you completely install MyWi 5.5, do not forget to reboot your device. The corona update requires a reboot to fully take effect.

[UPDATE 1]: MyWi 5.50.6 on it’s way (available now via http://intelliborn. com/betamywi). Fixes “lag” and Bluetooth issues (caused by app conflicts).

Does this update use the native tethering switch or does it work around like PDANET where your carrier can’t really detect it?
