How to Backup iOS 5.1 SHSH Blobs with iSHSHit Directly on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch

iOS developer Aaron Lindsay has recently updated his iSHSHit app to version 1.0.14 that lets you save iOS 5.1 firmware SHSH blobs from Apple directly on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch for later restore and downgrading. It is a convenient alternative to TinyUmbrella and comes handy when you’re traveling and don’t have access to your computer.

iSHSHit 1.0.14 cydia app uses the ‘Cydia On File’ service in the background and takes a backup of iOS 5.1 firmware SHSH blobs from Apple directly on your device. The tool even allows you to email your SHSH blobs for permanent safe storage or secondary backup. There are other tools available such as TinyUmbrealla and iFaith which does the same thing but iSHSHit is one of the fastest and best ways to go about it since it allows you to save SHSH Blobs directly from iPhone, iPad, iPod touch.

If you don’t have access to TinyUmbrella, iSHSHit is a good thing, but if you have, TinyUmbrella is the best. Here’s how to save iOS 5.1 SHSH blobs using iSHSHit.

Step 1: Jailbreak your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G/3G and first generation iPad using redsn0w. Here’s the guide.

Step 2: Launch Cydia and search for the iSHSHit tweak which is available under the BigBoss repository. Tap Install on the top right corner.

Step 3: iSHSHit  app will now be installed. After that, restart your Springboard. You should now have the iSHSHit icon added to the homescreen. Tap it to open the app.

Step 4: You’ll be presented with a screen showing your unique chip ID, an option to change your Model, and the option to select the SHSH blob you want to backup. By tapping on Manage SHSH, you will be provided with the list of all previous SHSH blobs you have saved using iSHSHit tool.

Step 5: After selecting desired options in settings pane, tap the save button (top right corner of the window) to download and save the SHSH blobs to your device from Apple’s servers. You can optionally e-mail to yourself for permanent and secondary backup.

Step 6: When iSHSHit has finished downloading iOS 5.1 SHSH blob, you will be prompted with a push notification message. Just tap ‘Ok’ to complete the process.

Note: Apple is only signing iOS 5.1 now (5.0 for Apple TV), so that’s all you’ll get. If you’re not even getting iOS 5.1, then Apple’s servers must be having issues. These saved blobs cannot be used to restore on the iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and ‘The New iPad’. You can save SHSH blobs using iSHSHit, but am not sure if it also saves APTicket. (Updated: Yes it saves ApTickets too!)
