iSHSHit, a Cydia app to save and backup your firmware SHSH blobs, has been updated to version 1.0.14 to support iOS 5.1 firmware. Saved SHSH blobs act as a life saver and allows you to re-jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch in the event of accidental upgrade to latest mobile operating system. It’s important to note that this app won’t restore SHSH blobs, it will simply back them up.
iSHSHit 1.0.14 cydia app uses the Cydia On File service in the background and takes a backup of iOS 5.1 firmware SHSH blobs from Apple directly on your device. The tool allows you to email your SHSH blobs for permanent safe storage or secondary backup. There are other tools available such as TinyUmbrealla and iFaith which does the same thing but iSHSHit is one of the fastest and best ways to go about it since it allows you to save SHSH Blobs Directly From iPhone, iPad, iPod touch.
If you are new to jailbreaking scene, you may not know – What is SHSH and why save them? Well, SHSH blob or ECID SHSH is actually a signature check which is verified against Apple servers whenever you try restoring the firmware on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. As soon as a new firmware is released, Apple stops signing the older firmware, making it impossible to restore back to the older firmware.
In order to fix minor bugs and improve performance in iOS 5.1, Apple could push an incremental iOS 5.1.1 update or may release iOS 5.2 in the coming weeks, but if you have saved your SHSH signed blobs for iOS 5.1, you can then restore your iOS device to jailbreak-able iOS 5.1 (To date, only non-A5 device can only be jailbroken using redsn0w).
Right now, the iSHSHit 1.0.14 tweak can only be installed on jailbroken iOS 5.1 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, and first generation iPad. You can use redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 5.1 (semi-tethered), install the tweak and save your iOS 5.1 SHSH blobs. You can download iSHSHit from Cydia via BigBoss repository for free. Here’s is how to backup blobs using iSHSHit App.
