IMEI based ‘Whitelist’ AT&T Unlock for iPhone 4S has been Shut Down – [Confirmed]

Backdoor services offering to unlock iPhone 4S for life has shut down, reports Musclenerd. No one actually knows why it’s all stopped, but it could be Apple blocking it completely.

Last week, we reported on CutYourSim, a company that offered permanent unlocking of GSM iPhone 4S for a one-time fee of $185. The method used by them doesn’t require jailbreaking iPhone and thus keeps your warranty intact. It works with any iOS firmware or any base band version; and iPhone 4S will remain unlocked for life. Similar service was being offered by SuperPaddyNL.

All you have to do is to provide your iPhone’s International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number and carrier to which your iPhone 4S is locked to, and then wait a couple days for an e-mail confirming that the process is complete. Apparently, they add your IMEI# to Apple’s unlocked iPhone database. Once added, the phone could now be used on any GSM network. It’s that simple. This unique unlocking service is not from Apple themselves – but possible a rogue employee doing it without their knowledge.

As of today, CutYourSIM’s success rate to unlock iPhone 4S is Zero, which insinuates that Apple could have tracked rouge employee who is un-officially unlocking the devices. We are yet to receive official confirmation from CutYourSIM following which they will likely issue full refunds to users who paid through PayPal but did not receive an unlock.

For those who were able to permanently unlock their iPhone 4S using similar services, it is recommended that you backup the ‘official’ unlock key by SAM so Apple cannot block you again once you have it.

You can choose other alternatives: such as the Gevey Ultra S SIM which unlocks your iPhone 4S without jailbreaking and keeps your warranty intact. With GEVEY interposer, you can unlock iPhone 4S on baseband 1.0.11, 1.0.14 and 1.0.13. It doesn’t unlock iPhone 4 on baseband 04.11.08. It sells for $65, but is iOS firmware and baseband dependent.
