iOS 5.1, which has had a few beta releases over the last couple weeks, has been released for public download bringing Japanese language support for Siri. The update is available today and will be rolling out in Japan over the next few weeks. The latest iOS 5.1 build 9B176 fixes number of minor bugs in addition to stability and security improvements.

Since iOS 5.0 made its debut with the iPhone 4S back in October-2011, Apple has been under siege as fanbois complained of problems related to battery power. The latest iOS 5.1 software update publicly addresses the pesky battery-zapping bug (was fixed in 5.1 beta 3). Perhaps, Apple claimed to have fixed this issue in the iOS 5.0.1 software update itself, as per support document , but soon after, irate users hit Apple’s discussion boards to complain that this is not the case.

In the final version of iOS 5.1, Apple has also enabled 3G toggle allowing iPhone users to turn off 3G cellular data access. You can even delete photos from Photo Stream from your iOS device (added in 5.1 Beta 2). The first beta of iOS 5.1 was released on Nov 28, however.

Except few features such as Japanese Siri support, I have not yet heard about any new features in this build, but the details with full change log will likely surface soon. Stay tuned for additional details as they become available. If you find out anything new about this update feel free to tell us all about it in the comments.

The download of iOS 5.1 Final is available through iTunes for the iPad 2, iPad 1G, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS, as well as the third- and fourth-generation iPod touch.

NOTE: Users who want to jailbreak and unlock their iPhone should avoid upgrading to iOS 5.1, since the update will patch their existing 5.0.1 jailbreak. Users who have saved SHSH blobs for 5.0.1 on their device (not iPhone users who rely on unlock) can safely upgrade to iOS 5.1.
