iLounge reports some exciting news today, as their “repeatedly reliable source” claims that the company is working for a more robust Smart Cover for the upcoming iPad 3 and a thinner glass-backed iPhone 5 to be launched later this year.

According to sources, that are well acquainted with the Apple’s development future plan, the new iPad 3 case would closely resemble Incase’s Magazine Jacket with a folding magnetized Smart Cover on the front, and a rear shell made from fiberglass covered with PU/bicast leather. Details are thin whether the fiberglass case is for upcoming iPad model only or it will support its predecessor iPad 2 models.

Another noteworthy claim in the report is that iPhone 5 will not have aluminum-backed design, as rumored earlier.  Furthermore, Horwitz reports that Apple want to continue experimenting with glass and ceramic rear shells for a future iPhone model.

The new iPhone 5 will be thinner, and likely feature Corning’s stronger Gorilla Glass 2. Internally, things will be reshuffled, with redesigned connectors and a change in the layout of some parts. Besides the larger screen size, the company could replace the 30-pin Dock connector with a smaller connector.
