Siri voice assistant on iPhone 4S is a unique selling proposition for Apple but now the brains at Apple Labs are testing Siri on old generation iOS device like iPhone 4, claims JBN, citing sources close to Apple. The sources who want to remain anonymous claims that the company has already installed a special build of iOS 5 on iPhone 4 of select number of employees for final testing.
According to appadvice sources, the performance testing on A4 processor devices completed successfully. Since, the microphone of the iPod touch 4G is not as good as the one on the iPhone; the company could hold the roll-out for media player.
If it doesn’t pass through the testing stage, users will still be able to install Siri on jailbroken iPhone 4 or iPod touch. Hackers have already proved that Siri port on older generation devices like iPhone 4 and iPod touch is possible. iOS jailbreak developers chpwn (Grant Paul) and Steven Troughton-Smith have already made tremendous progress by bringing Siri to the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G along with voice recognition by Apple servers. But due to legal issues attached with the licensed code, they are holding back to publicly release the hack.
In addition to this, chpwn and Aman Gupta have found a way to add custom command to Siri voice assistant without using API. Using the hack, the voice assistant responds well to custom Siri commands.

Let’s just say I would be incredibly surprised if this actually happened and the fact that the source of this rumor is JBN, with no proven history. Considering the fact that iPhone 4S is just a minor update from its predecessor iPhone 4, Apple might unlikely go ahead to cannibalize its product.
