We have just received a photo from a Chinese part supplier, which is claimed to be an image of the next generation iPad 3 display panel. The top image is of iPad 2 while the bottom image is the iPad 3 screen display. Both the screens have been marked as 9.7 inch which confirms that there will be no change in screen’s real estate. However, iPad 3 shows different flex cables altogether.

The major difference which is noticeable is that there are three cables (brown ribbons) leading from the screen to the circuit board. One which is situated at far left is the power cable, while the other two are meant for display data. However, iPad 2 packages only two brown ribbons. Now, since the iPad 3 is expected to carry a Retina-capable high resolution screen of 2048×1536 (four times the number of pixels of the current iPad 2), the need for additional data bandwidth would likely be taken care by the third ribbon.

As iPad 3 launch is getting near, a flurry of iPad 3 images have started appearing online. Earlier today, rear shell of iPad 3 confirming larger battery, smartcover magnets, and other replacement parts leaked out suggesting a major change in the internal circuitry.
