Per A5 jailbreak stats, released by iPhone Dev Team, almost 1 million iOS devices (iPhone 4S and iPad 2) have been jailbroken on 5.0 / 5.0.1 in first three days. There are however, some users who are still waiting for redsn0w tool, since greenpois0n Absinthe is throwing critical errors. Majority of them are stucked on the screen that says – “Absinthe is now setting things up, please stand-by…”. Here’s how to fix it.

absinthe error

Step 1: Backup your data.

Step 2: Restore your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 via iTunes (manual firmware restore, not backup restore). iOS 5.0.1 can be found here.

Step 3: [Imprtant] For clean jailbreak, Setup your device as a new iPhone/iPad. Configure the initial settings as NEW device, region, language and most important, the DATA Connection (Wireless/Mobile).

Step 4: After restoring your iOS device, launch Absinthe application on your Windows PC and follow our tutorial to jailbreak A5 with greenpois0n Absinthe 0.3. The latest version of Absinthe jailbreak can be downloaded here.

Step 5: When the Absinthe application window says – “Almost done – just unlock the screen if necessary, and then tap the “Jailbreak” icon to finish”. Unlock the screen and you will notice an icon that says ‘Absinthe’. Just tap on that, after which your device will reboot again.

In case the server is down, you will get an Error establishing a database connection message. Just tap the Settings icon on your springboard and turn on VPN. You will get a configuration error but after about a minute or two your iPhone 4S will reboot with Cydia on the Springboard.

This fix reportedly worked for booth iPhone 4S and iPad 2 on 5.0.1. Let us know if it works for you. For all jailbreak updates do not forget to follow us @JAlLBREAKS

I tried everything, it only worked now that I restored the 5.0.1 OS manually before trying the jailbreak again. Thanks !

Anyways…after a file backup, you can just do “Reset settings and delete data” on your device. Without doing that from iTunes. Worked for me anyway.
    Cheers.

I got the Absinthe Standby error and followed the steps below to jailbreak my white iphone 4S

    1. Disabled the Passlock
    2. Deleted the ABSINTHE icon off from my homescreen
    3. Rebooted my iPhone 4S
    4. Ran the ABSINTHE.exe as ADMINISTRATOR. (It will tell you it found a error and will attempt to fix it)
    5. Untethered your iPhone 4S and then re-tether it again
    6. Re-jailbreak your iPhone
    7. ABSINTHE app should work as it is suppose to and will automatically reboot iphone and the Cydia icon will take its place. :)
